NetVault Backup 8.6
Enterprise-Class Backup & Recovery Unleashed
Cross-platform data backup and recovery just got even easier with the new capabilities found in NetVault Backup 8.6. From restores that are 50% faster, to increased scalability, NetVault Backup 8.6 has you covered. Highlights of this new release include:
Faster Restores
NetVault Backup is already blazing fast at data restores. Now it's even faster! Improved index caching techniques allow NetVault Backup to reduce the time it takes for you to restore data from incremental backups. Based on internal testing, NetVault 8.6 is on average 50% faster than previous versions.
Increased Scalability
Now there’s virtually no limit to the number of files that can be processed in a single backup job. From a small workgroup to a worldwide enterprise, NetVault scales, allowing you to protect your current environment and to grow, uninhibited, as your data storage needs expand. A capacity-based licensing option adds to NetVault flexibility, giving you the freedom to deploy a wider variety of products at no additional charge, including application plug-ins and virtual tape library (VTL) support.
Extended NAS Support
Extending its dominance in protecting a wide range of Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, NetVault Backup is the first backup solution to support block-level incremental backup for BlueArc’s highly scalable, high-performance NAS systems. Quest Software has a rich history protecting NAS filers. This support offers significant improvements in performance and scalability. After the first full backup, all subsequent backups are only new and changed blocks, greatly improving the speed of data transfer and reducing the amount of backup data stored.
Broad Platform & Application Protection
NetVault offers unmatched coverage for backing up a wide array of platforms and applications. NetVault Backup 8.6 extends this reach, adding support for the following operating systems, applications, tape devices, and NAS platforms (via its plug-in for NDMP):
- FreeBSD 64-bit, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.5 and 5.7, and Mac OS X Lion (v10.7)
- MySQL 5.5 databases and improved support for Teradata data warehouse solutions
- Tandberg Data DPS VTLs, Quantum i600 Tape Libraries, IBM 39M56636 (DDS) drives
- DataDomain’s NDMP Tape Server Service, EMC DartOS 7.0.x, NetApp ONTAP 8.0.x C-Mode
