Server Administrator for SharePoint gives you maximum insight into your SharePoint server and farm configuration and customizations to optimize manageability, performance, availability and security.

Server Administrator for SharePoint helps you to gain confidence in your SharePoint environment by ensuring your servers and farms are configured properly and conform to best practices. It also prepares you for the upgrade to SharePoint 2010. All of this can be administered and maintained using your current staffing and resource levels.

  • Server Reporter – Gain insight into SharePoint and its underlying platforms including hardware, Windows, SQL Server, IIS, .Net, asp.net, WSS, MOSS, Search and Excel with reports on their current configuration. Also compare settings and configurations between servers and farms to identify disparities. 
  • Risk Locator – Know what configurations, settings and customizations are affecting the availability, security, performance and manageability of your SharePoint environment. Identify risks based on best practices with ratings (critical, high, medium and low) so you understand the severity of each risk and can take appropriate action.
  • Configuration Advisor – Analyze the configuration of your entire SharePoint environment and view reports on best practice violations, server health, performance and security issues. Reports explain each issue in detail along with recommendations to resolve them, ensuring optimum availability, security, performance and manageability.
  • Rule Maker – Create your own best practice rules for availability, security, performance and manageability in your environment using PowerGUI to build PowerShell scripts that can be loaded into the main product.

  • Support for SharePoint 2007 and 2010 Technologies – Supports Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), Windows SharePoint Services v3 (WSS v3), SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint Foundation 2010.

The Server Administrator console must be meet these minimum requirements:

  • Windows XP 32-bit Service Pack 3, Windows XP 64-bit Service Pack 2, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1
  • Active Directory domain joined computer
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
  • A domain account must used to run Server Administrator and to perform scans
  • If the firewall is enabled, port 14520 must be configured to allow outbound connections

For the computer where the Server Administrator database resides:

  • SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3, SQL Server 2005 Express Service Pack 3, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 Express R2

Targeted SharePoint Web Front End Server

The software is supported up to and including the listed versions:

  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2, SharePoint Foundation 2010
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Service Pack 2, SharePoint Server 2010
  • SharePoint Windows Authentication configured
  • IIS 6.0 or later
  • If the firewall is enabled, port 14520 must be configured to allow inbound connections

All Targeted Servers (including farm database servers and non-SharePoint servers)

The software is supported up to and including the listed versions:

  • Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows 2008 R2 Service Pack 1

Server Administrator for SharePoint is a secure and quick way to get insight into your SharePoint environment. Use the welcome screen to select what you would like to do: scan a farm, go to reports, compare SharePoint editions and servers, create your own rules, manage individual farms and engage with the community.

Farm Overview Details

Browse through the SharePoint Farms node to see overview information about your farms as well as detailed information about the underlying platforms, including servers, operating systems, installed applications, windows services, farm services and more.

View and Compare Settings

Compare elements of the SharePoint farm to other farms or other parts within the farm, including servers, services, operating systems and more. Differences are shows in blue.

Risk Summary Report

For each node, you can select the Risk Summary tab to see a summary of the risks found for that node. The farm Risk Summary shows all the risks associated to that farm including any risks associated to the farm’s servers, services, security, web applications, and customizations. View the risks by severity and select any part of the report to drill down and see more details about the found risks.

View Risks by Severity

View risks in a list according to severity. Open each risk to view a description of the risk and a solution. Export the found risks to an Excel document or a PDF.

View Rules by Farm

View rules applied to each farm as well as all the rules operating in your environment. Server Administrator for SharePoint enables you to run different rules for different farms according to your needs and best practices.
