Organized, Hybridized Network Monitoring

In the world of network monitoring, there have commonly been two technologies used to gather information: agents that install locally on servers and other computers, and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).  There's now a third technology, unique to Windows, called Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).  It's similar to SNMP, but can provide great detail for compatible services and applications.  It's common for monitoring solutions to use either  locally installed agents or SNMP/WMI, but it's uncommon to see hybrid solutions that use both agents and SNMP/WMI. This white paper will discuss this the advantages of using all of three of these technologies for gathering information and one monitoring solution that leverages them.
